Case Study: Electric vehicles in Scotland
What We Did
| Client: | WWF Scotland |
| Client brief: | Determine the role of electric vehicles in reducing CO2 emissions in Scotland and address infrastructure requirements. |
| Our solution: | WWF Scotland had an urgent need to understand the role of EVs in the context of the Scottish Government’s ambitious CO2 reduction targets. With a detailed understanding of both the EV sector and the broader options for carbon reduction in transport, Element Energy was well positioned to undertake this study. We used scenario-based approach to fulfil the research aims, which included an evaluation of the potential CO2 emission reductions, analysis of the infrastructure requirements to support EV uptake, calculation of the impacts of EVs on urban air quality and an assessment of the implications for renewable energy generation. |
| Result: | Element delivered a concise report on time and within budget, representing outstanding value for the client. The work formed a central part of WWF Scotland’s wider research into emissions reduction from transport, which is being used as evidence for action in presentations to the Scottish Government.
![]() The emissions savings required from EVs depend on contribution from other measures such as curbing demand for car travel |
