Renewable energy & planning

With residential buildings accounting for approximately 25% of the UK's CO2 emissions, the Government is committed to ensuring that the environmental impact of new development is minimised.

Changes to the Building Regulations will impose increasingly stringent standards for new buildings, on the path to all new domestic dwellings being 'zero carbon' from 2016, with new non-domestic buildings achieving a similar standard from 2019.

In addition to national regulation, local authorities are increasingly adopting strategies that require developers to meet specific targets, a proportion of energy from on-site renewables or particular Code for Sustainable Homes standards for example.

We work with developers, architects and engineers and provide a range of services, including:
  • Energy strategies for new build developments (from individual dwelling to site-wide level).
  • Early stage technical feasibility studies.
  • Design and incorporation of renewable and sustainable energy options.

The changing planning agenda requires energy supply and consumption to be considered from the earliest opportunity. Early stage inclusion of new and renewable systems is the most cost-effective route and can lead to fewer design revisions.
