Hydrogen buses enter service in LondonFebruary 9, 2011
Two new hydrogen fuel cell buses began running in London last month. A third bus is due to enter service imminently, on the way to deploying eight buses in London by the end of 2011. Kate Harland from Element Energy has been working on secondment at Transport for London as the Project Manager for the delivery and operational phase of the buses, maintenance depot and associated hydrogen refuelling station. London is the first city to deploy buses under the Clean Hydrogen in European Cities (CHIC) Project. Kate said: ‘The buses have been designed especially for London and will contribute towards meeting the Mayor’s Transport Strategy. With water vapour as the only tailpipe emission they will also help improve air quality in London.’
